I wasn't too keen on the failed grassroots effort to get Brian Wilson on "Saturday Night Live," but here's a campaign I'd like to see succeed: An Oakland A's fan has started a website entitled iwannafightbrianwilson.com and hopes to set up a charity boxing match against the eccentric San Francisco Giants closer.
According to this challenger named "Nick," Wilson initially proposed a fight between the two last May at Oakland Coliseum. With the A's up in the weekend series 2-0, Nick said he asked Wilson to sign a broom. Wilson didn't take kindly to the suggestion — again, this account is from Nick — and invited the A's fan down on the field to fight.
If Brian Wilson is a real "tuff guy" like he tries to promote himself to be, and wants to challenge me to fight in a situation where i would get arrested, then I'm sure he is tuff enough to take on this challenge and get into a ring with me and have a legal boxing match! The ball is in his court now!
And just for those who think Im trying to gain anything from this, If Wilson does man up and we have a boxing match, I will donate half of all proceeds to a local childrens charity and the other half Wilson can do what he wants with. He can donate to his favorite charity if he wants( The Tool Academy).
Maybe it's because it reminds me of every fight challenge I've ever received from loony commenters, but that last parenthetical just kills me.
Look, challenging a baseball player to fight via a blog is nothing new. Why, Kris Liakos made a cottage industry of it over on Walkoff Walk. But Wilson might just be crazy enough to get in the ring with some random "tuff guy" from Oakland. Keep your fingers crossed.
A prompt I might soon regret: Which baseball figure would you like to slug it out — "in a legal boxing match in a boxing gym" — with?
